Acceptable use
Last updated 31 July 2026
Two facts shape every rule below. A fresh read opens someone else's website in a real browser, so what you ask for has an effect on a third party. And the result is cached and served to any other caller who asks for the same domain, so an entry you cause to exist is not only yours.
What the service is for
- Putting a customer's real logo and colours into your own product.
- Enriching company records with the brand the company publishes itself.
- Generating documents, decks and interfaces that pick up a recipient's brand.
- Giving an agent the roles, contrast pairs and type it needs to build something.
What you may not do
- Ask us to read anything that is not published openly — pages behind a login, a paywall or an access control, or hosts on a private network.
- Use a result to pass yourself off as the company it belongs to: phishing pages, fake invoices, spoofed sign-in screens, or anything else that trades on someone else's mark.
- Re-publish the cache in bulk, or resell the raw responses as a competing brand dataset. Using the data inside your own product is exactly what it is for; repackaging the index is not.
- Work around metering — sharing keys across organisations, rotating keys to reset an allowance, or driving reads through a proxy to hide who is calling.
- Point it at a list of hosts you have no legitimate interest in, or at a rate that loads someone else's site more than an ordinary visitor would.
- Break the law with it, or help someone else do so.
Rate limits
Limits apply per key and are answered with a 429 and a Retry-After header. Back off when you see one rather than retrying in a loop. If your workload needs a higher ceiling, ask us — that is a conversation, not a violation.
If a brand owner objects
Anyone who controls a domain can ask us to stop serving it, and the process is on the removal and DMCA page. We check that the person asking controls the domain before an operator applies the removal. Once it is applied, the read is refused for every caller — including you, on an entry you were using. Build for that: read the confidence and error fields we return and fall back to your own defaults when a brand is not there.
What happens if this is broken
Depending on what happened, we may get in touch, throttle a key, suspend it, or close the account. Where we act, we say why. Report abuse of the service, or a brand being misused through it, to hello@extractbrand.com.
